Who is who in the selection of new characters? ============================================ Arkhalis - THE SCIENTIST The son of Senior, a lost exile of a man with a cold scientific mind. This is often displaced by his unstable emotions. Arkhalis begins with his own type of Halberd, much more ethereal than the others. Arkhalis is the most skilled with the halberd of all characters, reflecting in his ability to use it to it's fullest extent. He has three "movesets" unlike the other halberd wielders who possess one. Halberd Slash is a normal cut with the halberd. Forward Thrust is a jabbing attack that causes an AoE knockdown. High Cleave is a powerful multi-hit but stamina-expensive move that instakills downed enemies. ============================================ Senior - THE LEADER Arkhalis' surrogate father, who doesn't treat him all that well. Arkhalis would watch Senior perish during the first battle of Holmdon. Senior's loadout of weapons is randomised every mission. All of them have some association to his past. He begins with his injuries from the battle of Holmdon, which must be healed, and full strength (and anger, haha.) ============================================ Octavius - THE WARMONGER Part of a foreign legion [The Axiom] bent on Holmdon's destruction, Octavius' anger comes from his broken status. As leader of the offensive against Holmdon, Monty was successful in killing all but one - Arkhalis. Young Arkhalis' continual outwittal of Octavius lead to his mocking and meteroic fall from power, something he resents explicitly. Octavius begins the game with his scimitar (which is absolutely awful), a light machine gun, and his rifle, all of which are non-tradeable and non-droppable. He loves his Bren gun so much, he'll automatically use it if he's AI-controlled! Octavius is often forced into melee combat due to ammunition shortages; be careful, as Octavius is not designed to fight melee at all. ============================================ Xeres Legionnaire - THE HARBRINGER Octavius' personal guard, resposible for the hunt for survivors after the Holmdon Siege. They begin with the Zephyr, a battleaxe capable of claiming souls, but are useful for combat only; they cannot support, or pick up any other items at all. ============================================ The Halberdiers [Warren/George/431st/Senior] - THE VALIANT Under George's banner(s), these few defended Holmdon in it's darkest hour, giving their lives in vain. You may now play them from an alternate perspective of history, although all of them are as nationalistic and proud of their country as before. They all start with varying Holmdon-ese weapons. George begins with his own set of banners. They are covered in more detail in the other files, as they are fairly complex. ============================================ Rohoa - THE MEDIC Rohoa is a serving medic, who's father was killed by a rampaging eldritch animal in her teenage years. This formative experience robbed her of her faith, and she is one of few Xerians to withhold any belief in Rosetta. Rohoa begins with a medical satchel that can be loaded with medical loot; when held, she automatically heals nearby injured comrades. She also has HAWKE'S HOMEBREW, a purple goop that can be used to revive friends or can be spilt. Spilt homebrew is highly flammable and burns well. However, she is a pacifist; her combat stats are awful, she has longer cooldowns for all weapons, and crap melee stats. ============================================ Green - THE GLOWING Courageous, loyal, prepared. Green Bright - the backpack-ing, glow-in-the-dark-ing friend. Green can slap people away and can access the trunk from anywhere; additionally, he glows, and has a special last hurrah on death. ============================================ Frank - THE SWOLE Arguably Green's bodyguard. Not much goes through his head, but there's MORE THAN PLENTY going on in those muscles. Have fun lifting fridges from the start of the game, and throwing them into zombies. Or vice versa. Frank suffers in the shooting, wits and fitness departments, but can lift nearly any object in the game, even those that TLB can't, but only when using his default attack. He does not start with any items, and will struggle to escape hordes due to his size and other factors. ============================================ Meowzers - THE ASSHOLE One of Green's friends - a sassy, quite rhetorical cat gifted the power to speak, something he uses annoyingly well. Since Arkhalis left his town, Meowzers has commandeered the business, and not by diplomacy, I might add. Meowzers wrench allows him to repair the car manually in missions. Meowzers will also cause the car to become linearly more efficient over time. In addition to this, he slowly tinkers with his weapon, The Webber, over the course of the game, eventually turning into a powerful mess of a weapon. ============================================ Springo - THE...THING A purple clay entity, born to life from an unknown origin. He speaks no langauge and knows no civillization, but he's elastic like a sock. Springo's adorable nature instantly cures civillised characters. He begins with a dart gun and a free revive. Everytime Springo is hit, he loses stats - furthermore, on his death, characters will be overcome with grief. ============================================ Lienne - THE MONK *Formerly "Achilles"* A lone monk, Lienne has trained her entire life with martial art weapons. Unafraid and angry, she uses these skills well in the post-apocalypse. Achilles starts with her martial arts gear (physical weapons) but cannot pick up any other items. ============================================ Smith - THE ENGINEER Smith was an engineer for much of his time at Holmdon, partially responsible for the rushed fortifaction when the Axiom appeared on the horizon. Despite his best efforts, he was struck down after the siege. You may now witness his genius from an alternative perspective, and bask in his skill in *Gunsmithery.* He starts with his own hammer, which gains charges every mission. After a certain amount, he'll craft something new, which will pop in your inventory for use. ============================================ Triple - THE DEFENDER Credit to @Triple for this character. [Streamer of this mod.] Triple's arsenal doesn't do much killing, but it focuses mainly on knockback and delay. Triple's third slot is randomised each mission with a new weapon, mainly orientated around non-lethality with some exceptions. Triple's golf club can easily knock down zombies, and once knocked down, further hits cause EVEN MORE knockback. Furthermore, he starts with the THUMPER, a sticky-goo launcher. ============================================ Vohx - THE RESISTANCE Those that remained after Holmdon's initial siege became part of a resistance on it's outskirts, based in camps and anonymous parts of forestry. Such attempts at resistance were in vain. Under the iron fist of the Axiom, the resistance was hunted down, and eliminated, it's leaders - including Vohx - made a mockery of. Vohx begins the game with the Invictus, a sword that causes extensive bleeding damage, and his FREEDOM BREWS - chemical concotions that cause a variety of status effects, as per his theme. ============================================ Tony - THE DESTROYER OF WORLDS Tony can phase through walls, create black holes, and send things into the stratosphere with his YOINK. Black holes can and will suck everything but you in their path, including but not limited to, current prime ministers. He is meant to be OP; he is a joke character and is not meant to be taken seriously in any capacity. ============================================ Rhodes - THE VETERAN A careful and cautious man, who serves as Octavius' second in command, but only out of fear. After the threat of Octavius fades, Rhodes realises his wrong, and switches sides to try and redeem himself. Rhodes begins with a special shotgun and Heavy munition pouch, which are useful only when used together. It allows Rhodes to fire off a number of empowered shots per mission from the shotgun. Any damage that Rhodes receives is PERMANENT. Rhodes begins with 6 shooting. ============================================ Ross - THE TRAITOR After disagreeing with Senior's leadership style, Ross become enthralled with the prospect of the Axiom. He would later give information regarding the whereabouts of Holmdon defences, contributing greatly to the town's defeat. Ross begins the game with ammo pouches which allow him to carry more ammunition for weapons than normal. He has -2 dexterity as a result, and also begins the game with a small ammo gift (40 rounds.) ============================================ Mortuus - THE NECROMANCER The embodiment and beholder of the Xeres Legionnaires, Mortuus wonders the mortal realm to investigate death, plentiful in the wake of the apocalypse. Using the sacrifical dagger will erase 1 health, but will grant you 3 skeleton guards in exchange. His mace, though heavy, has a chance to corrupt zombies, converting them to your side. Furthermore, Mortuus can sacrifice his life in exchange for the life of all of his nearby dead friends with the Artis Tome. ============================================ Volteor - THE FACTORY Volteor, Arkhalis' failed creation, lives only in suffering. Slow and clunky, it serves it's one purpose well - to artifically synthesise materials. Starting the game with Volteor causes a remote to appear in your inventory. Using the remote will cause Volteor to self-destruct, but will give you gas. So...how much do you hate robots? ============================================ Norman - THE IRONCLAD Norman does not know many things. So much so that he can't even raise his mechanical or medical skill once in a mission [it can be preserved by putting him on rest, but this is probably wasting the character. He's meant to be stupid!] But at a 87% chance to resist damage, Norman does know how to brawl. And well. Starts with one slot and a very powerful default attack, as well as extensive armour - but that's all he can do, and ever will do. Norman's origins are unknown. We know only of his desire; to brawl, hard, by whichever means available. ============================================ Rosetta - THE SPELLSTEALER Once guardian of the artifact that raised the Xeres legionnaires from their graves, Rosetta is a disgraced half-deity, wandering the earth since her failure. Rosetta is incapable of picking up weapons like any other normal character does. Instead, however, she is able to copy the weapon of any character - or beast - to wield as her own. Furthermore, she receives as 25% cooldown reduction on any item she copies. There are a few restrictions to the weapon steal list, and Rosetta has a maximum health penalty. However, if Rosetta obtains her scepter powerup, she is also capable of using some of the scepters that other characters do. E-Ark's lightning is the best example. Some weapon gimmicks, such as the Prodivor sword, also work when wielded by Rosetta. Furthermore, Rosetta has 25% reduced cooldowns on any weapon she successfully wields. ============================================ Apollo - THE ARCHER Imagine a world, briefly, in which bows in DRTC are not total ass. Apollo is the representation of this vision, and his bow has many unique changes that make bows actually viable. For example, - Increased damage and scaling - The option to bring fire arrows for extra damage (sacrificing self defense) - The ability to fire over objects, from cover - Cool animations regarding the way the bow is held - Renewed sfx for firing, drawing the bow, etc - Arrow FX, including flying through the air and getting stuck in zombs - A generally renewed bow experience Apollo was a talented and upcoming competitive archer, drafted into the war against his will. Standing alone during it's final hours, Apollo was unceremoniously struck down by a stray projectile, his flame of talent extinguished forever. ============================================ Lt Cole - THE BOMBARDIER Ever wanted to blow up stuff? How about half the map? Lt Cole is a cheeky and old siege engineer, who overstepped his mark and found himself at the helm of a quite lethal court marshalling. Lt Cole carries a mortar that breaks open (think the Loch N Load, from TF2) which takes gas as ammo, and a powder keg that can be stuffed with gas by holding down the trigger; upon releasing the trigger, it acts like a time bomb, with damage and range proportional to how much gas was stuffed inside. At 100 stuffed gas, it can wipe out the whole map, including you if you fail to run away in time. Cole also has a arabuque, a type of very powerful shotgun with an exceptionally long cooldown. It's so heavy, it swings back and forth as he runs with it. ============================================ Tarkutta - THE SNIPER Formerly a Captain in the esteemed Xeria guard, Tarkutta Saari lives a life alone. Tarkutta has a special rifle, Marbelle, which can be aimed manually by holding down the attack button. A laser will mark the bullet's trajectory. Hit headshots with this rifle to build up Headshot Combo, which improves the damage, radius, and punchthru of your rifle. You can further increase the damage of the rifle by shooting from as far away as possible; the longer the shot, the higher the damage. ============================================ Officer Condor - THE HUNTER Carrying his own personal rifle, Condor moves faster than most. Condor recieves Tarkutta's aiming mechanics and long-distance positive damage scaling, but cannot headshot. Officer Johannes Condor helps the team scavenge by gathering extra resources; unfortunately, these resources come in the form of minibosses which must be fought and defeated in order to obtain the loot. Condor also has less health, and is fairly naive. In the lore, this is his undoing; Johannes surrenders Xeria to Octavius, believing that Octavius will spare the life of its citizens. He was wrong. ============================================ Katila - THE INFILTRATOR A strong but gullible woman, Ada Katila spent her life in a region known as The Furnace, a desolate set of sandstone canyons where no life survives. Madam Ada Katila learnt to become like water in this enviroment; stealthy and fluid. Now, she applies these mechanics to the apocalyse. Ada has a wrench which can knock zombies out temporarily, with the chance for this status scaling with STR. When attacking, her stealth (which makes her undetectable) is broken for 2.5s, providing a small speed boost. This stealth is also broken when there are a medium-high number of zombies nearby. However, Ada is very fragile and suffers a -3 morale penalty without any of the benefits of civilized. ============================================ Saelari Homyx - THE MAESTRO Brigadier Homyx wields the Volynbe, a rapier with a metronome type system. Attacking in time to the metronome increases the attack's damage and sweeping area, based on how precise your timing was. Build combo to increase the cleave and damage further, but be careful, because one abhorrent timing and you'll lose ALL your combo. Combo can only be built with the volynbe, but it can be spent with any melee to empower it. Homyx has a massive morale penalty, awful personality, and severe shooting penalties. ============================================ Eskar Taukann - THE CAVALRY Eskar has access to a horse. Eskar and Eskar alone is able to mount and ride this horse, allowing him to traverse the map quickly. The horse must be left indoors and must be dismounted to enter rooms. It also must be fed. Mount and dismount with your USE key. Riding the horse grants the ability to trample zombies, wield the majority of melee weapons (akin to real cavalry) as well as faster movement. The horse is fragile - 1HP - and will follow when dismounted. The horse cannot be revived. Eskar has access to the Ruenella, a cavalry sabre which is a bit weaker than the original. It is also 50% slower, but the new cooldown is halved if mounted. This means that, when mounted, you attack at a respectable rate. Eskar is unable to shoot and cannot shoot while on his mount either. You may not throw or shoot while mounted and most charge weapons cannot be used on mounts. Eskar has 2 hitpoints and has 10% multiplicative movement speed penalty. You can trample small groups with your horse. This deals no damage but does knock the zombie down. In DRTC, downed zombies take additional damage. You are immune to zombie bites while mounted. However, if you attempt to run into a horde or are hit by an explosion, the horse you buck you off, stunning you for a significant period of time. Be extremely careful of this, as it will get you killed. If the horse dies, Eskar will tame and ride a new one in the next available mission. I did this so he's always got some access to his gimmick. ============================================ Bucket - THE UNDYING Originally doomed to perish in an excommunication ritual, Bucket was both saved and cursed by a sprinkling of divine intervention. Since then, Bucket has roamed a wanderer, a sad yet hopeful soul. As bucket attacks with DECAY, he gains LIFE which allows him to begin critting. Better weapons collect LIFE more efficiently. LIFE also causes Bucket to grow and emit a powerful healing beam to nearby teammates. Bucket has an unreliable personality and eats more. He cannot raise his medical, mechanical, or dexterity. Furthermore, he is 10% slower (multiplicative.) ============================================ Elsa Wynne - THE WRANGLER Two-time international boomerang champion, Elsa made a living on a quiet farm in rural Xeres. However, Elsa was never one to forget her home or forgo her duties; during the Axiom-Xeres war, she helped to ferry supplies for Xerian forces. Elsa's primary draw is her boomerang, which operates differently from the slow and awkward boomerangs of usual. In addition to actually having a curved trajectory, the boomerang has better visual effects and deals a respectable amount of damage. / / / / / / / ECHO CHARACTERS These characters are like their normal variants, but have their concepts twisted on their head. Opposite characters, basically. Echo Arkhalis - THE EXILE Trapped forever on the run, Arkhalis' skillful manipulation of his lightning powers gives him powerful ranged damage. Though the lightning is free and effective, it requires you to hit things with a half-decent melee weapon to accumulate charges. However, if struck while tired, Arkhalis will be downed instantly. ============================================ Echo Green - THE LASER With a cool new resonator weapon, Green has sacrificed his support ability for lasering-the-shit-out-of-zombies ability. It charges every mission, but Green is slower than before, and has no more self-light. You can switch modes on the resonator: there's a normal single-shot mode, a shotgun mode, and BEAM MODE. ============================================ Echo Commander George - THE TACTICIAN With plantable AoE flags, George is able to create static buff areas to defend. Good care must be taken of his flags, as most of them cannot be remade - George himself is also vulnerable, having lower stats than his non-echo variant. Any flags deployed (apart from PRIDE) must be picked up in order to be taken to the next mission. ============================================ Echo Meowzers - THE BUILDER Able to construct static obstacles, Meowzers can now both dish out pain with his bombchuka and prevent zombie advance with his massive defenses. This comes at the cost of a lack of mechanical ability, and the inability to tinker with the car, as well as less speed. ============================================ Echo Triple - THE PYSCHO Echo Triple doesn't care about supporting, or defending. He is concerned merely with the smashing of frail zombie heads, and the destruction of every horde that opposes him. So much so, he has sacrificed any semblance of support - his mechanical and medical will reset at every opportunity. ============================================ Echo Octavius - THE MACHINA After having lost his arm unceremoniously in a duel with Arkhalis, Octavius survives by replacing it with a robotic arm. This inhibits his shooting ability, but allows him to do things with his arm that he would not have dreamt otherwise. Octavius gains damage and cleave as his health becomes higher - though Octavius has a maximum of 6 healthpoints, he takes double damage from bites. The cleave only applies when the arm has charge, otherwise it is very ineffective. Luckily, Octavius' spare hand can be used for his Winnie, a little stopgap revolver to get small jobs done. ============================================ Echo Ross - THE GUARD This new Ross comes ALWAYS with a small detachment of 2 guards with him. They will protect the party at all costs, but only Ross can give them orders to DEFEND or ATTACK. Any nearby AI also follow these orders. Ross also comes with a new ammobox that periodically deploys ammo, but must pick it back up after each mission, as he won't get any new ones. Ross cannot give orders from other rooms or if he is too far away (Ross must physically be on the same screen as his guards to give them orders.) Echo Ross has only 1 health, down from his usual 2. This version of Ross follows what could have become if he had stayed loyal to Holmdon in it's darkest hour. ============================================ Echo Frank - THE BOWLER Oh my, Frank. Time was not kind to you. Having lost most of his strength and his ability to pick up any object, Frank has turned to bowling. Armed with 5 bowling balls, Frank is able to toss them into crowds to knock over lines of zombies effectively. However, these bowling balls do not recharge - they must be picked up and cared for. Frank also brings javelins, which he is able to use with extreme prejudice. His default attack is also weaker, and he is less tanky. ============================================ Echo Xeres- THE FRACTURED Sometimes when being brought forth, it is not just spirit that leaves the grave. A defect, an error - this legionnaire has had his spirit split. When attacking, he himself has a chance to split into two identical copies that fight in union. These clones can make more clones still. The split chance per hit scales linearly with strength, as does the maximum number of clones. Frail, this legionnaire's primary weapon is weaker, and he only has 1 vitality. Furthermore, his fitness and shooting are permanently stuck at 0. To top things off, if one clone dies, they all die. ============================================ Echo Warren - THE SCOUT With his telescope, Warren is able to see things off-screen. Furthermore, Warren carries a lantern, the most powerful light source in the game. To top things off, he can trade 4 food for one health with his ration box. This all comes at the cost of being both slower, and having a -2 bonus to combat stats, as well as retaining none of the bonuses of his former self (for example, the halberd.) ============================================ Echo Volteor - THE INCINERATOR Volteor can sacrifice weapons to gain physical stats. In exchange, Volteor is slower, has less health, causes fires on death, and cannot raise mechanical or medical (as they reset often.) Sacrificing better weapons gives more stats, up to a bonus of 2, depending on their rarity. Those that do not fit any category in particular will restore health. Common weapons (your knives and canes) restore nothing. ============================================ Echo Rhodes - THE VETERAN Finally seeing the error of his ways, Rhodes switched sides. Though now with less health and some strength and fitness penalties, Rhodes now has the ability to multishot (40% chance) with almost any firearm, and can only carry two things (down from 3.) ============================================ Echo Senior - THE MASTER Having honed his melee combat and just having barely survived the last stand, Echo Senior found himself a niche. Though having less vitality (2), less starting health (1), a morale and fitness penalty (-3), and being unable to raise his shooting, Senior enjoys several melee bonuses. - 30% faster swinging speed for all melee - 35% chance at a crit swing, dealing 2.5x the damage In exchange for this melee prowess, Senior has the following penalty also: - 65% slower firing speed for ranged weapons ============================================ Echo Tark(utta) - THE CONTROLLER Captain Saari makes good use of positioning and control to turn sieges in his favour. Use flares to gather up zombies in favourable locations, then net them all together to slow down their advance even more. Then, either blow them up or fire a massive hole in the crowd with your musket to complete the job. Look after your net! You won't get another one. Furthermore, watch out for your health and melee stats, as both of these have been penalised. ============================================ Echo Rosetta - THE PRISMATIC The embodiment of the universe, a caricature of prismatic light as old as time. E-Rosetta can colour-shift to a variety of colours, which now persist between missions and (single) saves. These colours change how your second item, Manifest Spell, works. Each colour presents different bonuses: RED - Damage Up, Mana Regeneration Down YELLOW - Fire Enabled GREEN - Fire Rate Up, Range Up BLUE - Damage Down, Mana Regeneration Up Purple - Corruption FX ============================================ / / / / / / / *CURRENT ON-DEATH INTERACTIONS* SPECIAL DIALOGUE: Green to dying Arkhalis Arkhalis to dying Green Arkhalis to dying Senior Octavius to dying Arkhalis Arkhalis to dying Octavius Octavius to dying Ross Octavius to dying Rhodes Meowzers to dying Arkhalis Triple to dying Octavius Triple to dying Green Triple to dying Frank Arkhalis to dying Springo SPECIAL FX: Normal Volteor will explode into gibs Echo Volteor leaks a pool of harmful lava Echo Green will desaturate, becoming more grey and drained / / / / / / / / / CAMEOS Please for the love of sweet jesus do not ask me to add more. These characters are less well balanced. Demoman, Sniper, Heavy, Engineer, Spy - THE TF2 REFERENCE Of course, characters from Team Fortress 2. You'll find quite a lot of (somewhat uncanny) similarities. - Spy and Engie are rare characters. - Heavy, Demo, Sniper are modded custom characters, who begin with their stock loadouts. I have tried to balance them in accordance to how they are balanced in the game. Demo is slow, with limited ammo, heavy is slowest but has a huge healthpool, etc. ============================================ Captain Kunkka - THE DOTA2 REFERENCE // LIKELY TO BE REMOVED IN NEAR FUTURE Kunkka currently has the Tidebringer and Ghostship abilities. // Considering replacing with Pugna ============================================ The Knight - THE HOLLOW KNIGHT REFERENCE That's literally it. They come with a Nail, Vengeful spirit and Soul Restore. When they die, Shade will spawn, and will attempt to kill you and all your friends. ============================================ Strike Commander - THE REDCON REFERENCE Strike commander starts with his own rifle, sledgehammer, and the ability to call supply drops for 7 food that contain weapons and ammunition. ============================================ Mr Torgue - THE BORDERLANDS REFERENCE Torgue starts with two iconic legendary weapons as well as 5 strength, 4 health, and one hell of an attitude. All his weapons have a % chance to explode on hit and consume more ammunition. ============================================
